the grunge photography issue

Through more net surfing I stumbled across a post from the blog Web Designer Depot entitled "100 Striking Examples of Grunge Photography". I'm not sure where they've collected all these images from but the post is a great source for alternative photographic images of the grunge persuasion. Whilst a lot of the work would have presumably experience quite a bit of tweaking in post processing, they are extraordinary grunge images.
The textures and play of murky distorted colours mixed with the choice of subject matter create a definite atmosphere and mood to each image, a personality to every photograph.
Here are some of my personal favourites, though I recommend having a look yourselves.

the edustries issue

On one of my many internet searches for creative work, hidden out there in the cyber world I came across the Edustries website. The website showcases the work of the company who's passions lie in web design and graphics. An illustrated story that struck a particular chord with me was this one, entitled "The Street".
I love the rough hand-generated aesthetic, the minimal use of colour as an occasional accent to the graphics and the underground subject matter.

the toyin revisited issue

So this is basically just another post heralding my affections for the work of photographer, Toyin.
These photographs really exhibit the inventive, unique way in which she portrays boys in her photographs. The style is so unassuming and raw and males are portrayed in a very unique way. Innocence and sexuality are somehow both explored in the one photograph and the subjects are made to feel very real.
This is what the photographer had to say when asked to describe her work...

"...What lies beneath - not just a pretty face. Raw, honest to a point, and maybe a slight hint of voyeurism and untapped sexuality, it's all in the eyes..."

the wooden toy quarterly issue

On a recent trip to Mag Nation in Newtown, I discovered the magazine, Wooden Toy Quarterly and their sixth issue, entirely hand-made. I've since done some research into the other back issues of the magazine and loved the aesthetic of their other editions also. The magazine is an Australian street/youth culture and art publication and has a very fresh, edgy and authentic approach to the aesthetic design, as well as the content.
Below are some images from the sixth issue of the quarterly.

the richard kern issue

Browsing the Dazed Digital website I found the some work by photographer Richard Kern that he took whilst travelling through Europe. Whilst the photographic style is a little traditionally perfect for me, I admire the photographer's aesthetic ideology of using realistic models with little to no make-up. I think the appreciation for realism there adds a lovely element to his work, even if it is a little "happy" and lacks the graininess that embodies my personal style.
