the toyin issue

I only just discovered
London-based photographer, Toyin recently but her work has fast become a favourite of mine. Inspired by youth, androgyny and 70's style rock'n'roll attitude, the images and the subjects she portrays seem to capture a suspended moment in time, a realised emotion all in a single frame.
Her focus on depicting youth inspires me as the direction for which I wish to steer my magazine is this sort of dazed, dreamy, idealistic, edgy, emotional crowd of misfits.
From the candid to the almost awkwardly posed, Toyin nearly always shoots her subjects in her own home. Looking at her work you almost feel as though your intruding on someone else's thoughts, a voyeur's playground.
